It's funny- I can pick up and regionally place accents in English (US, UK and within, ANZ, SA etc) and French, but am at a near-total loss to pick out the accent I have in my own native tongue. I mean, I notice the
occasional dialectical difference, and other
dialects are instantly identifiable (and I can even imitate them, which I'm totally unable to do in other languages), but 95% of the time I hear NO difference between my own (whether spoken by me or others) and the language's equivalent of RP. Occurs to me that we're all like that though, in some ways, eh?
