Nice profile of one of my favorites. I didn't know he wrote Armageddon: makes me feel a little better about having liked it so much (or at all) and caught such eternal flak for it. Of course it was ludicrous and the acting was horrible. But the humor (especially the medical-testing montage) and the story overall... Come on, how am I going to resist a story line that has redemptive self-sacrificing love as its climactic turning point? I got no defense against that. The third time I saw it in the theater (*waits for derisive incredulous laughter to subside*) the dudes to my left cried a little, and I instantly loved them for it.
