It’s ridiculous that women have to see 8 million male-driven films, and no one ever says, “Will women come to see these five guys hijack a plane?” They just assume they’ll come because they have no other options. This conversation never happens in the reverse.I have been banging on about this for years...the "every girl is expected to (and does) see The Lion King, but no boy is willing/allowed/taken to see The Little Mermaid" thing. Not that Disney is any paragon of morality or social responsibility, but just as an example.
I liked the movie, especially Wiig's acting and the on-the-whole very natural/realistic/believable exploration of female friendship which is so sadly uncommonly seen (I'M LOOKING AT YOU S&TC). In my theater there were nearly as many men as women and quite a few there alone or in groups, ie, not "dragged there by women", which was heartening.
